Stay Cool This Summer

3 Tips to Keep Cool All Summer Long

Soaring temperatures and intense sunshine may make the thought of being outdoors anything but appealing. But for many areas of the country, summer days are fleeting and we do our best to make the most of them. Plus some seasonal outdoor activities such as swimming and riding bikes are additional opportunities to be active.

So how do you keep cool while enjoying the summer sun? Keep reading.

Drink Up

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate… and then hydrate some more. Increased temperatures and sweating can cause you to lose water faster than you normally would indoors. Start drinking water about an hour before you will be outside and continue frequent drinking throughout the day. Thirst is an early signal of dehydration so don’t wait until you’re thirsty to grab that water bottle!

Gear Up

Stay cool and comfortable by simply choosing the right gear. Light-colored clothing reflects the sun’s rays instead of absorbing them. Moisture-wicking material pulls sweat away from your skin keeping you cool and dry. Need some new options? Shop our favorite SPENGA gear at your local studio or online. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat to enjoy the summer sun comfortably and safely.

Listen Up

We always recommend listening to your body and modifying any activity as necessary, after all, it’s you vs. you. However, it’s even more important to tune into your body’s cues when you’re outdoors. The heat may make your muscles feel looser or more warmed up and make you want to push harder. If that’s the case, do so with caution and back off if you start to feel dizzy, faint or nauseous. Stop what you are doing right away and find a place to cool off and rest.
