Move More for Heart Health This Month

Your heart, if you take care of it, will take care of you -- so make sure to get it pumping in and out of the studio. The American Heart Association recommends getting 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of strenuous cardiovascular activity each week to keep your heart healthy and strong.

Your ride, rep, revive certainly helps you get those minutes in, but what about the rest of the time? While most of us have full schedules and juggle many roles in our lives, we could probably squeeze in a few extra minutes of movement a day.

February is American Heart Month, so try a few of these tips to get moving more at home, at work and at play.

At Home

  • Crank up a playlist while doing housework
  • Work in the yard gardening, mowing the lawn or shoveling snow
  • Stand up and walk while on the phone
  • Do push-ups, squats, etc. during TV commercials or in-between show episodes

At Work

  • Try a walking meeting
  • Walk to a coworker’s desk/office instead of emailing or calling them
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Go for a walk during your break or lunch hour

At Play

  • Sightsee by walking or bicycling in a new city
  • Plan family outings to include physical activity such hiking, swimming, etc.
  • Join a recreational sports team
