Let’s talk about how much healthy food costs, especially lately. Somewhere along the line, fresh fruits, veggies and lean proteins gained the reputation for being expensive. And honestly, they can be. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t healthy choices available and accessible at a lower price point.
Remember, stocking your kitchen with healthy foods supports all of the WERK you do in the studio. Apparently the folks over at Greatist agree. They published a list of healthy foods that cost less than $1.00, yes one dollar. Prices were figured out per serving which can help you look at exactly how these foods stack up. So while a chicken breast might be $2.99/lb, it comes out to $0.75 per 4 oz serving making it an affordable, healthy option for lunch or dinner.
Other foods include:
● Eggs ($0.19 per egg, $3.50 per dozen)
● Almonds ($0.60 per ounce (20 to 25 nuts), $5 per 8-ounce bag)
● Oats ($1 per pound (in bulk))
● Canned Tuna ($0.30 per ounce, $1.50 per 5-ounce can)
● Popcorn ($0.30 per 1/2 cup, $1 per pound for kernels)\
● Bananas ($0.50 per banana, $2 per bunch)
● Apples ($0.75 per apple)
● Broccoli ($0.50 per 1/2 cup, $2 per bunch)
● Sweet potatoes ($0.50 each, $1 per pound)
● Canned tomatoes ($0.50 per 1/2 cup, $1.80 per 14.8-ounce can)
