What brought you to SPENGA?
I initially was interested in Spenga because the location made it possible to fit in exercise and get to work easily. I was not in great shape when I started but I did some yoga and thought maybe I could make Spenga a part of a new routine.
What's your favorite part?
I really like that it is a mix of stamina, strength and flexibility. I have gotten so much stronger and I like that each part is 20 minutes instead of trying to do the same thing for an hour. That has never been something that I enjoyed and so I always have just quit because I spent a lot of time dreading. I truly look forward to Spenga even though it can be really tough at times. I have gotten to know some of the members and the staff go out of their way to encourage, help and support me.
What has your fitness journey looked like?
My initial goal was to get in shape. I always say I want to age and never get old. So far I've lost 50 lbs and for the first time ever I am seeing real definition in my arms and legs and I have a lot more energy. I just feel really good. This encourages me to continue. Now I miss the days I don't get to go.
What words of encouragement would you give to someone just starting out?
Spenga never feels exclusive or intimidating but it is challenging. It worked for me when I could barely just sit on the bike and pedal for 20 min or lift 5 lbs and it still works as I am able to do more and more. Spenga is a huge part of my lifestyle change and honestly the most enjoyable part of things I do to be better.
