SPENGA Crew Spotlight: Alyssa
I played basketball and volleyball and threw shot put and discus for the track team in high school, eventually making it to college for basketball after tearing my ACL, MCL, and meniscus in 2016. Thankfully, I continued to play college sports, joining the volleyball team in 2018 and finishing out my sophomore, junior, and senior years on the team. In May of 2021, I was introduced to a wonderful yoga studio here in Greenville where my love of movement and using it as a vehicle to heal my physical and emotional ailments flourished. I got my certification to teach Pilates in October of 2021, but still felt there was something missing. After a short phone call with Jane about becoming a potential member, she asked me if I'd be interested in teaching, so I went out on the ledge and said, "why not?" Being able to pursue a full time career in fitness not only for my own health and wellness, but getting to inspire others wherever they are on their journeys is the greatest gift in the world. Getting to do that through SPENGA is the cherry on top!"
Fun Fact: I'm a published author, and I got to sing "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" on stage at a charity event with the original guitarist, Ricky Byrd, from Joan Jett & the Blackhearts when I was 18.
