What brought you to SPENGA? What's your favorite part?).png)
Just over 3 months ago, I was the heaviest I have been. After nursing school I told myself week after week "Next week, I'm done ordering takeout and I will start to cook again". I did that for over a year. Until I weighed myself and the realization that I was 1 pound away from 200 pounds. I knew the "next week.." needed to turn into a "right now", so like any person going through a slightly dramatic breaking point I began to research different gyms and found SPENGA. The only studio or exercise experience I had was yoga but I wanted something more than yoga. I took my first free session at SPENGA and the rest was history. I had never worked out so hard but felt so empowered in my life. The energy from the staff is unlike anything I've ever seen. Their energy is so inviting and contagious, it's like I've known them my whole life. I didn't feel out of place and wasn't intimidated or self conscious by others working out, I didn't feel judged, and every session since has been all that and more. It's the whole thing for me, my favorite thing about SPENGA is the entire thing.
What has your fitness journey looked like?
At first, my goal was to lose the weight and become overall a healthier version of myself. It wasn't easy to stay committed at first, but the overall state of health I was reaching felt incredible. So much so that I began going before work (5am rides and the instructor's energy will turn even the most non morning person into a morning person) and the feeling of accomplishment after putting in the "werk" made it so easy to make healthier diet choices.
I became so excited about working out, I talked my husband into coming to a session with me not knowing how he'd feel. Two sessions later, he switched his membership from the 8x/month to unlimited, and currently we are both hooked.
What keeps you motivated? What are your goals?
My goal was to reach a targeted weight of 150 lbs by June 12th. I am 8 lbs away from reaching my goal. But regardless of the reason I started, SPENGA has become a part of what I look forward to. I look forward to class, the instructors, the WERK! "Next week" will never begin. If you're going to invest in anything in life, invest in your health and do it with people who you enjoy and who enjoy you. ????
